Panayia Prousiotissa Icono

$79

Panagia Prousiotissa, also known as Our Lady of Prousa, is a revered icon and pilgrimage site in the Greek Orthodox Church, particularly famous in Greece. It is housed in the Monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa (Μονή Παναγίας Προυσιώτισσας) in Evrytania, central Greece. Here's why it's famous:

1. Miraculous Icon of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary)

  • The monastery is home to a highly venerated miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed to have been painted by the Apostle Luke.

  • According to tradition, the icon miraculously traveled from Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) to the mountains of Evrytania to escape destruction during the Iconoclast period (8th–9th century).

  • It was found in a cave by a shepherd, guided by a mysterious light.

2. Place of Pilgrimage

  • The monastery is a major pilgrimage site, especially during the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos on August 15.

  • Pilgrims from across Greece and beyond visit to venerate the icon, pray for healing, and seek blessings.
